Google Play Screenshot Sizes & Graphic Requirements (2026)

Google Play screenshot, feature graphic, icon and video requirements for phones, tablets, Chromebooks, Wear OS, TV and XR — plus what you need to be eligible for promotion.

Updated 6 min read

Google Play is far more flexible than the App Store: there are no exact pixel sizes, just a few rules. Screenshots must be JPEG or 24-bit PNG, 320–3840 px per side, with the long side at most 2× the short side and 8 MB max. For phones, 1080 × 1920 px is the safe default. Below are the rules for every form factor, plus the icon, feature graphic and video specs from the Play Console Help.

Quick answer: every Play Store graphic

Phone screenshot sizes

Any size that passes the rules is accepted. These are the sizes worth using in practice:

Size (px)Aspect ratioWhen to use it
1080 × 19209:16Safe default; meets the 1080 px promotion minimum
1440 × 25609:16Sharper on high-density phones; same layout as 1080 × 1920
1080 × 21601:2The tallest ratio Play accepts — closest to modern 19.5:9 and 20:9 phones
1920 × 108016:9Landscape apps and games

The rules, in detail

  • Count: at least 2 screenshots across device types to publish, up to 8 per device type (phone, 7″ tablet, 10″ tablet, Chromebook and so on).
  • Format: JPEG or 24-bit PNG. A 32-bit PNG with alpha is rejected even if every pixel is opaque.
  • Dimensions: shortest side at least 320 px, longest side at most 3840 px.
  • Aspect ratio: longest side ≤ 2× the shortest. A raw 1080 × 2400 capture from a 20:9 phone (2.22:1) fails; crop or pad it to 1080 × 2160.
  • File size: 8 MB per image. Large PNGs with photos or gradients can exceed this; export JPEG at high quality instead.
  • Alt text: you can add a description of up to 140 characters to each graphic for screen-reader users.
Captured screenshots are usually too tall
Most current Android phones have 19.5:9 or 20:9 displays, so a raw device capture breaks the 2:1 rule. Put the capture inside a device frame on a 9:16 canvas with a caption above it — that’s what most top listings do anyway.

Tablets & Chromebooks

Google Play shows separate screenshot sets on large screens. For 7″ tablets, 10″ tablets and Chromebooks, Google recommends at least 4 screenshots, between 1080 and 7680 px, in 16:9 landscape or 9:16 portrait. Show your real large-screen layout; stretched phone screenshots look poor and don’t help on large-screen surfaces.

Device typeSuggested size (px)Notes
7″ tablet1080 × 1920 or 1920 × 1080Native panels are often 1200 × 1920 (16:10); that passes the general rules, but Google’s large-screen guidance asks for 16:9 / 9:16
10″ tablet1440 × 2560 or 2560 × 1440Native panels are often 1600 × 2560 (16:10); same caveat
Chromebook1920 × 1080 or 2560 × 1440Landscape is the natural orientation
3840 vs 7680 px
The large-screen guidance allows up to 7680 px, but the general screenshot rule caps the longest side at 3840 px. Staying at or below 3840 px (for example 3840 × 2160) satisfies both.

Wear OS, TV, Automotive & XR

Form factorRequirementNotes
Wear OSAt least 1 screenshot, 1:1, min 384 × 384 pxApp UI only — no device frame, no transparency or masking
Android TVAt least 1 TV screenshot + 1280 × 720 bannerBanner is JPEG or 24-bit PNG; screenshots usually 1920 × 1080
Android Automotive OSAt least 2 portrait 800 × 1280 and 2 landscape 1024 × 768Required unless the app is in a parked-app category, where it is optional but recommended
Android XR4–8 screenshots, 8:5, PNG or JPEG up to 8 MBRecommended 3840 × 2400; minimum 1920 × 1200

Each of these appears only when your app declares support for that form factor, so you can skip any you don’t ship.

Eligibility for promotion

Google Play’s recommendation surfaces that use screenshots have stricter requirements than publishing. If you skip them, your listing still goes live, but it may not show up in those formats:

  • Apps: at least 4 screenshots with a minimum resolution of 1080 px — portrait at least 1080 × 1920, landscape at least 1920 × 1080.
  • Games: at least 3 landscape screenshots at 1920 × 1080 or 3 portrait at 1080 × 1920 that show actual gameplay.
  • Avoid screenshots that are mostly text, show only splash or title screens, or use time-sensitive claims (“#1”, “new”, prices, promotions).

In practice: upload all 8 slots at 1080 × 1920 (or larger) and you meet both the publishing and promotion bars.

Icon, feature graphic & video

App icon

512 × 512 px, 32-bit PNG with alpha, max 1024 KB. Upload a full square — Google Play applies the rounded mask and shadow itself, so don’t pre-round the corners or add your own shadow. Don’t add badges or text that suggest ranking, price or Play categories (“#1”, “Free”, “Editor’s Choice”). See app icon sizes for the launcher icon sizes inside your APK.

Feature graphic

1024 × 500 px, JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha. It’s required, appears at the top of the listing when you add a promo video, and is used in featuring. Keep important elements away from the edges and avoid pure white, black or dark-gray backgrounds. Full details in the feature graphic guide.

Preview video

  • One YouTube URL — public or unlisted, embeddable, not age-restricted, with ads/monetization turned off.
  • The first 30 seconds can autoplay (muted) on the listing, so put the core experience up front.

Text fields

Not graphics, but uploaded on the same page: title 30 characters, short description 80 (no emojis, special characters or repeated punctuation), full description 4000. See character limits or check drafts with the character counter.

Making them with our tools

  1. Open the editor, start from a template and add a Google Play phone board (1080 × 1920) plus tablet boards if you support large screens. Captions are shared across boards.
  2. Place your captures in a device frame — that keeps tall 20:9 captures inside the 2:1 limit without cropping your UI.
  3. Add the 1024 × 500 feature graphic as its own board, and generate the 512 × 512 icon with the icon generator.
  4. Export the ZIP — screenshots come out as opaque images at exact sizes, optionally in fastlane supply folder layout.

Frequently asked questions

What size should Google Play screenshots be?

Google Play accepts JPEG or 24-bit PNG screenshots between 320 px and 3840 px on each side, with the long side no more than twice the short side. For phones, 1080 × 1920 px (9:16) is the safe default; 1440 × 2560 or 1080 × 2160 (1:2) also work.

How many screenshots do I need for Google Play?

You need at least 2 screenshots across your device types to publish, and you can upload up to 8 per device type. To be eligible for recommendations that use screenshots, apps should provide at least 4 screenshots at a minimum of 1080 px.

What is the maximum screenshot size on Google Play?

Each screenshot can be at most 3840 px on its longest side and 8 MB in file size. The longest side also can't be more than twice the shortest side, so 1080 × 2400 (20:9) is rejected while 1080 × 2160 is accepted.

Can Google Play screenshots have transparency?

No. Screenshots and the feature graphic must be JPEG or 24-bit PNG without an alpha channel. Only the 512 × 512 app icon is a 32-bit PNG with alpha.

What size are Google Play tablet screenshots?

Google recommends at least 4 screenshots for 7-inch tablets, 10-inch tablets and Chromebooks, between 1080 and 7680 px, in 16:9 landscape or 9:16 portrait. 1920 × 1080 or 2560 × 1440 landscape are common choices.

Do I need a feature graphic to publish on Google Play?

Yes. A 1024 × 500 px JPEG or 24-bit PNG feature graphic is required to publish. It appears at the top of your listing when you add a promo video and is used in featuring and promotions.
